Box Score Thanks in large part to
Eric Houska's game-high 26 points, Colorado College defeated the University of Dallas, 65-60, in its regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers improved to 11-14 overall and 10-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and earned a first-round bye in the league's postseason tournament.
In addition to keeping Colorado College alive for a top-two seed, Houska became the third Tiger to record 400 points and 100 assists in a single season. He joined Verdel Baskin and Ryan Milne, who each accomplished the feat twice, on the exclusive list.
Houska and
John Hatch each reached the 400-point plateau this season, marking the eighth time in program history two players reached the milestone in the same season. The last duo to do that was Ryan Milne (480) and Chris Lesnansky (408) during the 2013-14 campaign.
Houska finished the regular-season with 125 assists, which ties him for fifth on the school's single-season list with Milne's total from the 2012-13 campaign. He also finished with a personal-best 411 points.
Hatch, who was limited to eight points due to foul trouble against UD, leads CC with 437 points, which put him in a tie for 24th place with Milne (2011-12).
Junior swingman
Ryan Young posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Crusaders' Michael Sarrat hit a jumper to tie the game at 45-45 with 8:30 remaining, but the Tigers responded with a 13-2 run and led 58-47 with 3:26 to go.
After Colorado College misfired on its next two shots from the floor and made just three of six free throws, UD pulled to within 63-60 when Darrius Colvin hit a three-pointer with nine seconds to play.
CC was able to get the ball into Houska's hands for its final possession and the junior guard sank a pair of free throws with three ticks remaining to seal the victory.
Colvin led the Crusaders with 25 points. Lorenzo Gonzalez and Rory MacCallum scored 10 apiece for UD, which finished the season with an 8-16 overall record and a 2-12 mark in conference play.
The 2017 SCAC Men's Basketball Championship tips off on Friday, Feb. 24, at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. In the first-round games, the fourth and fifth seeds will play at 5 p.m. CT, followed by the third and sixth seeds.
