Dallas Grabs Non-Conference Win Over ETBU on Tuesday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team fought off East Texas Baptist University 5-4 to grab its eighth win on the season in a back-and-forth game. Sayer Collins reached on a fielding error in the Tigers first inning to allow Brady Faulkner to come around to score the first run of the game. Dallas had one hit in its bottom half of the first, but that would be all. ETBU gained runners on first and second with two outs, but Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) got the final batter to fly out to centerfield to escape the inning with no harm. Ross Lowe (Lewisville, Texas) got the bottom of the second started with a one out single to left field. Lowe later stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Nicolas Hovde (Waco, Texas) then walked and stole second. Graeme Williams (Frisco, Texas) singled through the left side to help score two Dallas runs and pick up two RBI. Up 2-1 in the third, Taylor sat the Tigers down in order. Nathan Patton (McKinney) blasted a no doubt homerun over the left field wall to give Dallas a three-run lead after three.

Things got dicey in the top of the fourth with two outs. A couple walks and an error loaded up the bases for ETBU. Jaylen Camarillo (Georgetown, Texas) got Ryan Kasper to fly out to left field to hold the Dallas lead. ETBU tied the game up in the fifth with the help of a Collins groundout and RBI and a bunt single by Jake Miller to bring in a couple runs. In the Dallas fifth, Womack reached first base on a fielding error by the shortstop and allowed Christian Wheatley (Austin, Texas) to come into score. After a quiet sixth, Collins once again drove in a run for ETBU with a sacrifice fly to center field and tie the game back up at four. With one out in the seventh, Patton walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Womack stood tough at the plate and singled in the Dallas run with his single. Montemayor came in out of the bullpen and pitched a clean sheet in the eighth. Montemayor got two quick outs in the ninth, but ETBU forced a stressful end to the game. Faulkner singled to third base on a slow dribbler and beat the ball out at first. Collins then reached on a fielding error to put two on with two out. Montemayor was able to get Nick Deatherage to fly out to centerfield to complete the save.

Faulkner was the lone Tiger to grab multiple hits and runs scored. Faulkner had the only extra base hit in the game for ETBU with his double. Collins drove in two RBI for the team-lead. ETBU stranded 10 batters in the game, but had four stolen bases. Reece Gustafson pitched the first three innings for ETBU allowing three runs and one walk off five hits. ETBU then used five relievers down the stretch.

Williams led the UD offense with three hits (one double), off four at bats with two RBI. Both marks were a season-best for Williams. Patton was 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI, while also drawing a walk. Womack added two hits and one RBI. Lowe and Hovde both swiped one base in the contest. Taylor pitched 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit and one run, while striking out four men. Justin Keller (Dayton, Ohio) made his season-debut on the mound. Camarillo went 1.1 innings with three hits allowed, and two runs earned. Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas) pitched two innings for the Crusaders and allowed one run and one hit. Montemayor picked up the save with two innings of work, allowing just one hit.
