
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The dynamic junior duo of Staley
Mullins and Shae Seagraves put up 48 combined points as the Pirates
sank the Stormy Petels 96-63 in SCAC conference action on Friday
evening. Southwestern improves to 8-8 on the year and 4-3 in the
conference while Oglethorpe falls to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the
SCAC.
Southwestern wasted no time exerting their dominance in the first
half forcing more turnovers (15) than points allowed (14) through
the opening 14 minutes. The Pirates never trailed the Stormy
Petrels in the contest and were up by 17 points after a Seagraves
layup with 21 seconds left in the half to go into the break with a
45-28 lead.
With well executed plays and continued pressure the Pirates were
able to maintain their lead even with an improved shooting and ball
handling effort from Oglethorpe. Southwestern led by as many as 22
points at four different times in the second half and never allowed
OU within 15 points for the remainder of the game.
Southwestern shot an impressive 65.4% from the floor and 33.3% from
the three-point line for the game while holding Oglethorpe to just
29% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc.
The Pirates head out on to fourth place DePauw on Friday and first
place Centre on Saturday for a crucial two game road trip.
Southwestern currently sits in fourth place in the western half of
the conference. Game time on Friday is set for 6:00pm.
