King, Stern Help CC Extend Winning Streak

Colorado College utilized a five-point performance from attacker Eva King and stellar goaltending from Alena Stern to record a 14-8 victory over Occidental College in the first of two games in Southern California.

CC, which is 4-0 on the road this season, improved to 10-0 for the first time since 2005.

King ignited a 10-2 surge midway through the first half when she struck for the second of her game-high four goals.

After Ellie Meyer put the Tigers ahead for the first time, King scored again and set up a Caroline Keller tally 66 seconds later.

Maggie O'Donnell capped CC's 5-0 run with 11:35 remaining in the first half, giving the Tigers a 6-2 lead after they scored five goals in a span of 3:06.

Each team scored twice during the final 10 minutes of the first half as Colorado College built an 8-4 lead after 30 minutes.

The Tigers flexed their muscles during the early stages of the second half and manufactured a commanding eight-point cushion when Maggie O'Donnell finished a 4-0 run with 21:09 remaining in the game.

Scoring strikes from Shai Goodman and Alessandra Pellicia cut Occidental's deficit to seven on two occasions, but each time CC answered less than a minute later to maintain a comfortable lead and allow it to use its entire bench throughout the final 20 minutes.

After falling behind 2-1 in the opening 11:06, the Tigers held Oxy to just two goals during the ensuing 27 minutes.

One big reason why Occidental had a difficult time scoring was the goaltending of CC's Stern, who set a season high with 14 saves. It marked the fourth time this season and the 11th time in her career the sophomore posted double-digit saves.

Sophie Murphy and Allie Thuet led Colorado College with four ground balls apiece, while Caroline Keller snagged a game-high four draw controls.

Madisyn Hallare scored with 16:03 to play, but Oxy didn't get any closer until Goodman closed out the scoring with 3:51 remaining.

Colorado College won 15 of 24 draw controls, while Occidental finished with a 45-42 edge in ground balls.

Both teams launched 26 shots.

Starting goaltender Neah Bois made four saves for occidental during 55:32 of action, while Haley Jones also finished with four in 4:28.

Shai Goodman led the Oxy attack with two goals and an assist, while Isabella Litt also scored twice.

Corinne Bates picked up a game-high nine ground balls for Occidental.

Colorado College wraps up its whirlwind visit to Southern California at 11 a.m. Sunday when the Tigers square off with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont.
