Concordia Texas edges Texas Lutheran 6-5 at Katt-Isbel Field
SEGUIN, Texas -- Concordia Texas stopped a bases-loaded, ninth-inning rally by the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs and secured a 6-5 non-conference road win Tuesday night at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.
Concordia's Otto Franz struck out a TLU pinch hitter on a disputed check-swing third strike with the tying run at third and the winning run at second. Franz converted the save, and Hayden Schroeder improved to 3-0 with the win. Schroeder went 1-2/3 innings in the victory.
Concordia as a team improved to 8-3 overall. TLU dropped to 7-6.
The Tornados took a 6-4 lead with a four-run sixth inning. Owen Hill hit a two-run home run, and Cason Novak drove in two with a double.
TLU pulled within a run in the sixth with a Joe Jimenez RBI sacrifice fly.
Jimenez was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI, and Alex Cornman was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Caleb Maly doubled to right-center in the fifth to give the Bulldogs a 4-2 advantage.
TLU opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday and Saturday with a three-game series against Austin College. A limited number of home fans will be allowed into Katt-Isbel Field for the series. Each TLU player is allowed four people on the pass list for entry into the games.
