PIRATES TAKE TWO FROM CRUSADERS

PIRATES TAKE TWO FROM CRUSADERS

IRVING, Texas - With strong plate appearances the Southwestern softball team won both games of their double header against the University of Dallas on Sunday, winning 7-1 and 7-5 to improve to 23-10 on the season.

The Pirates came out tough in both games, scoring in the first inning in both contests, four in game one and two in game two. They continued to apply the pressure, scoring runs throughout the rest of the games.

After being held to just one run in the first game, the Crusaders tried to push back in game two and consistently put up runs, partially due to Pirate errors. UD brought the score back even in the sixth inning, 5-5, forcing extra innings. SU posted two runs in the top of the eighth and then firmed up their defense to seal the victory.

Kara Solomon was very effective on the mound as she got a win and a save in the two games. She pitched a complete game in the first contest, allowing just four hits and one earned run, and then threw the final inning in game two and allowed just one hit but took care of batters herself, striking out three.

Offensively, the Pirates were strong all the way through the line-up and spread out the work load evenly.

SU heads to Trinity this coming weekend for their final games of the regular season. Southwestern is currently in second place in the West of the conference, just one game behind Millsaps for first place, and one game ahead of Trinity.
