Clutch Shooting Lifts CC Past Macalester

Clutch shooting by McKenzee Gertz, Anna Faneli and Abby Walz during the closing minutes helped the Colorado College women's basketball team post a 64-59 victory over Macalester College in the final game of the 2019 Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday afternoon at Reid Arena.

Gertz buried back-to-back three-pointers to help turn a one-point deficit into a 60-57 lead with 2:02 to play, and after the Scots scored to close to within one, Fanelli sank a pair of pressure-packed free throws with 17.7 seconds to put the Tigers ahead by 62-59.

Walz sealed the victory by making a pair of free throws with 6.3 seconds to go after she was fouled while pulling down the rebound of a Macalester misfire at the opposite end of the court.

Gertz led CC with 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and had a game-high three steals.

The Tigers also received a huge performance from Rosie Braley, who scored a season-high 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
