Shreveport- The Centenary women's soccer team fell 1-0 in a hard-fought match to the University of Texas at Dallas Comets on Friday evening in a non-conference contest at Mayo Field.
The Ladies (0-3) and Comets (3-0) played to a scoreless draw for nearly the entire match until Bella Granada found the net at the 85:31 mark to break the tie and give the Comets the victory. The Ladies fell to 0-3 all-time against the Comets.
Junior GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) denied a shot on target by Sierra Foster which deflected right to Granada and she fired the winning shot into the net. Ersoff was busy all evening as the Comets' aggressive offense finished with a decisive advantage in shots (26-2) as she finished with a season and single match career-high 11 saves.
Comets' GK Jade Press earned the shutout and made one save as Press and the UT-Dallas defense have yet to allow a goal this season. The Ladies were whistled for 10 fouls and the Comets were tagged with six. The Comets took the match's only two corner kicks. Junior MF Aubrey Burkhardt (Bossier City, La.) had a chance to tie the match in the final seconds, but her shot sailed wide to the left as the Comets were then able to hold the ball and seal the win.
The Ladies will face Sul Ross State University on Sunday at UT-Dallas in a match set for 11 a.m. to complete its weekend.
