SHERMAN, Texas – McMurry University Swimming was back in the pool Saturday, as both teams swam in the Austin College Invitational. The McMurry men placed fourth with a score of 191, while the women were also fourth with 221 points.
Senior Jerick Pena racked up picked up a pair of fourth place finishes to lead the McM men, and placed fourth with the 200-yard medley relay team as well. He completed the 100-yard backstroke in 56.23 seconds, while touching the wall in the 100-yard individual medley in 58.04 seconds.
In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Ethan Sykes picked up McMurry's top finish of the day with a third place showing in a time of 2:13.68. He placed seventh in the 100-yard medley with a time of 1:00.03 in a field of 20 swimmers.
For the McM women, senior Monica Flores once again paced the war Hawks with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:51.86 and a sixth-place swim in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:21.88. Junior Jessica Gryder had a strong swim in the 50-yard freestyle, taking sixth out of 14 in 27.86 seconds.
Up next for the War Hawks is a trip to the Rocky Mountains for the Colorado College Invitational January 19-20.
