Mesa State went on a 25-3 run midway through the first half and coasted to a 91-51 victory over Colorado College in the Holiday Inn Thanksgiving Classic on Friday night in Grand Junction, Colo.
The Tigers dropped to 1-5 overall, but its last four losses have been at the hands of Division II opponents. The Mavericks improved to 2-2.
After Colorado College cut its deficit to 21-19 on a layup by Austin Perkins with 10:22 remaining in the first half, the Tigers went the next 8:13 without a field goal. Perkins ended the drought with 2:09 to go before the break, but by that time the damage was done.
Lance Jacobs led CC with 17 points, while Nick Rose added 12. The 51 points were a season-low for the Tigers.
Kurt Bangle had a game-high 16 points to lead Mesa State. Jase Herl added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Mavericks, who finished with a 41-21 advantage in rebounds.
Colorado College will face Western State College at 4 p.m. Saturday, its fifth game in a row against opponents from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
