
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Pirates held Millsaps College
scoreless through the opening seven minutes of the game and cruised
to a 61-33 victory at the annual WBCA Pink Zone game on Friday
evening in the Robertson Center.
Southwestern came out with guns blazing, mounting a quick eight
point lead before allowing the Majors back to within four points.
That is as close as they would get for the remainder of the contest
as SU went up by 17, 28-11, with two minutes remaining in the first
period and headed into halftime up 12, 30-18.
The Pirates set the same tone early in the second half as they
mounted at 26 point lead with a 16-2 run through the beginning
seven minutes. Southwestern held the Majors at bay and took a 28
point lead, seizing the win, to move to 9-12 overall and 5-7 in the
SCAC. Millsaps falls to 0-21 overall and 0-11 in conference
action.
Junior Shae Seagraves led all scorers with 18 points while junior
Staley Mullins added in 10. Shante’ Morton led for the Majors
with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Southwestern shot 46.3% from the floor and 35.3% from the three
point line while holding Millsaps to just 22.2% from the field and
10% from beyond the arc.
The Pirates return to action on Saturday with a game against
Hendrix at 6:00 pm.
