
SHERMAN, Texas – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas opened the final weekend of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday at Austin College.
St. Thomas (9-18, 5-11 SCAC) dropped matches to Southwestern (Texas) and nationally-ranked Colorado College.
The Celts conclude SCAC play Sunday with matches against Schreiner (noon) and the University of Dallas (6 p.m.)
SOUTHWESTERN 3, UST 0
The Celts were unable to complete a season-sweep of Southwestern as the Pirates claimed victory in three sets.
Scores of the match were 25-12, 25-17, and 25-16.
Alaina Lanik and Alyssa Ajlouny knocked down six kills apiece for the Celts. Kelsie Walker tallied a double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs; her 10 digs were matched by teammate Kaylyn Latin.
Southwestern (17-11, 10-5 SCAC) never trailed in sets one or three. The Celts jumped out to an early 7-3 in set two and led by as many as five points in the set. However, eight consecutive Southwestern points gave the Pirates a 15-12 lead as they seized momentum in the set.
COLORADO COLLEGE 3, UST 0
The Celts faced a difficult task in their second match of the day, as they faced Colorado College, ranked No. 6 in the NCAA's Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Scores of the match were 25-8, 25-9, and 25-9.
Emily Jaroszewski led the Celts with four kills, while Kelsie Walker led the defensive effort with nine digs.
