
The Pirates jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on a 2 RBI single by Cray Betts that drove in Johnny Gavrel and Patrick Keenan. The Pirates would add to the lead in the 5th thanks to a Brett Martin RBI single to drive in Greg Thumm. The Majors would start to chip away in the 6th by scoring a single run on a sacrifce fly.
Chris Churchwell took the hill for the Pirates and was outstanding. The senior finished off his career with a complete game, allowing just 3 earned runs while striking out 3. Millsaps would start to get to the starter late in the game. The 7th inning saw the Majors add another run on a fielders choice to bring the game to 3-2. In the bottom of the 8th the Majors brought 2 across thanks to a throwing error and a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the 9th the Pirates would load the bases with one out thanks to 2 singles and a walk, but the majors would enduce the game ending double play. The loss drops the Pirates to 17-19 on the year and 8-11 in conference. The loss combined with a Hendrix win drops Southwestern out of playoff contention with just 1 game left in the season. The Pirates will conclude their season Sunday against Millsaps at 1 pm.
