GEORGETOWN, TX- Schreiner University traveled to play the Southwestern University Pirates on Varsity Field on Sunday, October 1st, 2023.
In the 15th minute, Keegan Hardy drilled one past the Mountaineers goalkeeper to take the early lead. Just two minutes later, Nathaniel Blake was assisted the ball right inside the box by Mofe Arriyo and Keegan Hardy, and he was able to increase the score 2-0. Just two minutes later, Blake found himself in the exact same position, only this time, he passed to an open teammate, Luca Cipleu, who was able to get his first goal of the game.
From this point, the Pirates followed this same trend for the rest of the game. Their unselfish play set up teammate after teammate for a chance to score by making the extra pass. Southwestern outshot the Schreiner 25 to 1.
The Pirates would decisively win what would be a school record for most points in a shutout, 7-0.
Luca Cipleu would finish with 3 goals, earning the hat trick.
The Pirate's next three games will be on the road, starting Friday, October 6th, versus University of St. Thomas at 7:30 PM CDT.
