ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Swimming hosted its first dual of the season Friday night at the Phillips Family Center, hosting Austin College. The McM women were topped, 160-39, while the War Hawks men were defeated 130-84.

One of the highlights of the meet came in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle. After 40 lengths of the pool, the race still came down to the final turn. McMurry's Dany Baki came away with the victory just more than three tenths of a second ahead of Austin College's Alex Lou. Baki took the win in 10:40.87.

Baki was far from finished on the evening, also taking the victory in the 500-yard freestyle and also as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Joining Baki on the relay were Myles Pickens, Joshua Calderon and Zakai Love.

Alec Satre picked up the other win for McMurry in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.35. Satre also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle, while Jerick Pena finished second in the 100-yard backstroke.

For the McM women, Jessica Gryder took second place in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.08 seconds. Additional second-place finishes were captured by Monica Flores in the 200-yard individual medley and by Mackenzie Reiner in the 100-yard breaststroke. Flores finished right behind Reiner in the breaststroke.

Next up for both teams is a visit to Hendrix College November 2-3 for the Hendrix College Relays and Hendrix College Classic.
