Gertz Posts Double-Double in Loss to TLU

McKenzee Gertz recorded her third double-double of the season, but the Colorado College women's basketball team dropped a 76-66 result at Texas Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon.

Gertz connected on seven of 15 shots from the floor, including five of 10 from behind the arc, and finished with a game-high 21 points. She also grabbed 11 rebounds and had a pair of assists.

CC's sophomore winger scored 11 points during the third quarter alone, which was part of a 39-23 surge that saw the Tigers turn a 27-14 deficit into a 53-50 lead with 10 minutes to play.

Colorado College led 60-58 after junior guard Nia Duplain scored on a layup with 4:09 remaining, and then junior forward Julia Moore tied the game at 63-63 when she completed a three-point play with 2:28 to play.

Thirteen seconds later, Olivia Balderas sank two of three free throws to put the Bulldogs ahead to stay. Three pointers by Tara Molina and Balderas offset one by Gertz, which proved to be the final basket of the game for the Tigers.

TLU made five of six free throws during the final 37 seconds to seal the victory.

The Bulldogs were 20-for-34 from the free-throw line, while CC connected on 10 of 17.

Duplain finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for Colorado College, which slipped to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Senior guard Casey Torbet dished out a season-high nine assists and scored five points for the Tigers.

Junior guard Jordan Meltzer scored 16 points and pulled down three boards before fouling out with 37 seconds to go.

Molina led the Bulldogs with 17 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Abby Hroch added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds for TLU, which improved to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the SCAC.

Colorado College returns to action at Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon.
