Six Tigers produced double-digit points as the Colorado College women's basketball team sailed to an 80-62 victory at Southwestern University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon.

McKenzee Gertz led the way with 17 points, reaching double-figures for the 10th time in 11 games this season. The sophomore winger was 7-for-13 from the floor and drained three of seven long-range shots.

Casey Torbet finished with 15 points, connecting on six of 12 field-goal attempts, including three of four from downtown. The senior guard also dished out a game-high six assists and grabbed five rebounds.

Junior guards Jordan Meltzer and Nia Duplain, sophomore guard Jade Odom and freshman guard Izzy Strigel added 10 points apiece for the Tigers, who improved to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the SCAC.

Odom added a team-leading eight rebounds and passed out six assists.

Torbet scored eight points and set up more three baskets during a third-quarter blitz that saw CC outscore the Pirates, 31-16. The Tigers shot a fraction better than 72 percent from the floor and nearly the same from behind the arc in that time span to take control of the game.

Colorado College extended its lead to 70-43 lead then Meltzer hit a triple during the opening minute of the fourth quarter, and Southwestern was unable to get its deficit under 20 points until Loryn Hernandez scored the final two points of the game with 1:25 to play.

After trailing throughout much of the first quarter, the Pirates scored the final seven points to take a 17-16 lead on Cecily Woolfolk's layup with 16 seconds to go.

Woolfolk gave Southwestern a 22-18 lead when she knocked down a jumper 2:21 in the second quarter, but Strigel scored eight points during a 17-5 surge that gave Colorado College an eight-point cushion after 20 minutes and the momentum heading into the second half.

The balanced Tigers shot a fraction under 47 percent from the floor and was almost as sharp from behind the arc, where they finished a shade better than 41 percent.

Colorado College's 12 long-range baskets eclipsed the previous high of 11 set in the 91-71 win over St. Olaf College on Nov. 23. It also marked the fifth time this year the Tigers made double-digit triples.

While CC scored 36 points on three-pointers, the Pirates did most of their damage in the paint where they scored 34 of their points.

Woolfolk led Southwestern with game highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Tori Carraway added 11 points and seven rebounds the Pirates, who dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Colorado College is idle until Saturday, Dec. 29, when it opens a five-game home stand against the University of Dallas at Reid Arena.
