Lynx Take Double Header from Centre

The Rhodes Baseball took a double header from Centre College this afternoon in Danville, KY to open SCAC play.  The Lynx got two outstanding pitching performances from senior RHP Austin Carden and junior RHP Jackson Baker.  Carden threw a complete game 1 hitter, and Baker threw a complete game shutout in the second game.  Senior CF Travis Perkins got this going in the first game with a 2 run home run in the top of the fifth and junior DH Matt Burnick got the Lynx going with a 3 run home run in the top of the first in the second game.

Carden threw his first complete game of the season in the first game, working all 7 innings, allowing 1 hit, 3 walks, and struck out 5.  His lone hit allowed was a solo homerun by Centre's leadoff hitter, Danny Freudiger.  Baker threw his 2nd complete game shutout of the season in the 2nd game of the double header, working all 7 innings before the mercy rule was enacted after the 7th.  Baker scattered 3 hits, allowed 2 walks, and struck out 7.

Perkins' 2 run homerun broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth in the first game, as he went 1-4.  Sophomore OF Walker McWherter was 2-4 with 2 doubles, a run scored, and drove in 2.  Junior DH Matt Burnick was 2-4 with a run scored.  Sophomore C Josh Goodwin was 2-4 with 3 RBIs and Junior 1B Matt Killary was 1-3 with a double, 2 runs scored, and walked once.

In the second game, Burnick's 3 run home run got the scoring going early, as he would finish the day 2-4 with a homerun, double, 2 runs scored, and drove in 4.  Senior CF Travis Perkins was 3-5 with an RBI and stole a base.  Junior SS Lynden Pindling was 3-4 with a run scored, 3 RBIs, and stole a base.  Junior C Matt Shaw was 1-3 with an RBI, scored twice, and was hit by a pitch.  Junior OF Channing Arndt was 1-3 with a double, run scored, drove in a run, and walked once.

Rhodes will finish their 3 game set with Centre tomorrow at 1:00.
