Volleyball Suffers Second Loss of the Day

RICHARDSON, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates volleyball team lost its second match of the day, falling to the University of Texas-Dallas Comets in four sets (27-15; 20-25; 21-25; 20-25).

Both teams struggled with their efficiency in a hard-fought first set that featured seven tied scores and five lead changes with each hitting .000 for the set. Southwestern took advantage of 12 UT-Dallas attack errors to take the set. UT-Dallas rattled off three consecutive victories to take the match, finishing with a .179 hitting percentage.

"This team continues to use each point and match to learn how to see the game and respond to what we are seeing volleyball systems-wise," Head Coach Don Flora said. "Having teammates step up and take care of their teammate at key times continue to get stronger each match.

"We have identified how the day-to-day work and daily training pratice has meaning in each match. This is a sign of a quality team."

  • Riley Brantley was the Pirates' most potent weapon, recording 10 kills on 30 attacks with one error for a .300 hitting percentage. She also led the team with five block assists for 12.5 points.
