Wyatt Wellehan won both diving events, but the Colorado College men's swimming and diving team opened its 2024 California road trip with a 208-91 loss to 11
th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Wednesday afternoon in Claremont, Calif.
Wellehan, a freshman from Winnetka, Ill., captured the 1-meter diving event with a score of 304.9 points, followed by junior
Aidan Richter in second with 291.15. They finished 1-2 in the 3-meter as well, as Wellehan posted a score of 338.2 and Richter 310.25.
Sophomore
Edmund Davis finished second in the both freestyle distance races, completing the 500-yard race in 4:52.63 and the 1,000 in 9:58.19.
Senior
Eric Uerling was runner-up in the 50 free with a time of 22.18 seconds, while junior
Caleb Peimann did the same in the 200 backstroke in 2.00.93. That duo joined junior
Jack Hussin and sophomore
Dax Sherwood on the second-place 200 freestyle relay team that finished with a time of 1:27.23.
"It was great to get the opportunity to compete against Pomona's top 20 team," head coach
Anne Goodman James said. "That's why we are out here. It is nice to be at sea level, but it was certainly an adjustment swimming and diving outside in chilly weather. We look forward to our next competition with strong SCIAC teams on Saturday."
The Tigers wrap up their road trip on Saturday, Jan. 13, with a double-dual meet against Occidental and Chapman, beginning at 10 am (PT), in Orange, Calif.
