Tigers Score Early and Often in Thrashing of Illinois Wesleyan

  
Tobin Lonergan scored six goals and added an assist to lead the College College women's lacrosse team to a 21-7 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University in a neutral-site game on Saturday afternoon.

Lonergan, a first-year attacker, struck three times during the first quarter as the Tigers raced to a 7-1 lead and were never threatened.

CC scored four goals in a little less than six minutes to open the game. After Elliott Landry put the Titans on the board with 6:16 to play in the first period, sophomore attacker Peyton Murphy ignited a 6-0 run that extended the Tigers' cushion to 10-1 with 4:36 to play in the first half. Murphy finished the game with four goals and a pair of assists.

The teams alternated scores until late in the third quarter when Colorado College struck for three goals during the final 3:08 to build a 16-5 lead with 15 minutes to play. CC tacked on the first five goals of the fourth quarter before IWU struck twice in the final minute.

The Tigers' newcomers accounted for 13 goals, four assists and 17 points.

Olivia Dossett recorded four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers to lead CC's dominating effort in the midfield.

Colorado College caused 13 turnovers and held the Titans to seven clears on 16 attempts.

The Tigers finished with a 47-19 advantage in total shots and a 24-13 edge in ground balls.

Illinois Wesleyan won 17 of 30 draw controls.

Natalie Slade stopped four shots for Colorado College, giving her a two-game total of 22 saves this weekend.

Rebecca Rymarcsuk made seven saves for the Titans during the first half. Her sister, Lizzie, stopped eight shots during the final 30 minutes.
