Freshman
Willow Lott finished first among collegiate runners and led the Colorado College women's cross country team to a second-place finish against Division II teams at the Ted Castaneda Classic Saturday afternoon at North Monument Valley Park.
CC, the only Division III team at the meet, finished just 19 points behind first-place CSU-Pueblo and 38 ahead of third-place Metro State. Regis University placed fourth with 111.
Lott, the first Tiger to ever finish at the top among collegiate runners at CC's home meet, covered the 6K course in a personal-best time of 22 minutes, 17.39 seconds. She finished behind an open runner at the meet.
Senior
Kendall Accetta finished eighth with a time of 22:48.39, followed by sophomore
Alison Mueller-Hickler in 10th in 23:18.88.
Junior
Elliot Singer (23:217.79) and freshman
Charlie Flint (24:02.90) placed 12th and 18th, respectively, to close out the Tigers' scoring.
"We know there would be warm conditions today, but I was very impressed by how they handled the challenge," head coach
Alex Nichols said. "Every single woman on the team improved her position from the 3k split to the finish. That kind of smart racing will help us when we travel to the most important meets later this season."
The Tigers return to action at the Augustana Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14 in Rock Island, Ill.
