CC overcomes 13-point deficit to top Sewanee

Colorado College overcame a 13-point deficit during the final 6:23 to defeat Sewanee, 83-82, on Friday night in Tennessee.

Becky Luetjen scored two of her game-high 26 points with 55 seconds remaining to give CC an 83-80 lead. Jamie Robinson pulled the University of the South to within a point with 41 seconds to play, but Sewanee was unable to net the go-ahead basket in the final 16 seconds.

Colorado College won its third consecutive game to improve to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Sewanee dropped to 5-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

UOS led 73-60 when Lauren Gulley mad the first of two free throws, but the home team missed five of its last seven shots and turned the ball over three times. CC took advantage of the opportunity and went on a 23-7 run to build a three-point lead with just a minute to play.

Emily Wattman-Turner ignited an 11-0 run with a pair of baskets from behind the arc that helped the visitors pull to within 75-74 on an old-fashioned three-point play with 3:16 to play. Lauren Gulley gave the Tennessee Tigers an 80-76 lead, but after a layup by Aldaz, Colorado College took its first lead since early in the first half when Collier Clegg knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:57 to go.

Luetjen completed her seventh double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and added four steals.

Laura Glen posted her first career double-double with career highs of 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Aldaz finished with 14 points, while Clegg added 13 more.

CC finished with a 54-39 advantage in rebounds and shot .514 from the floor in the second half.

Sewanee made 12 of 37 shots from behind the arc to maintain its lead, but missed an opportunity to put the game away by making only 22 of 35 free throws.

Gulley and Christina Johnson led UOS with 15 points apiece, while Virginia Zakas scored 12.

Colorado College travels to Atlanta to face Oglethorpe University on Sunday.
