Bulldogs Come Up Just Short to Colorado College, 67-63

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Another fourth quarter surge by the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (12-7, 9-2 SCAC) came up just short this time as the Bulldogs fell 67-63 to Colorado College (11-11, 8-5 SCAC) on the road Sunday afternoon.

Texas Lutheran cut an 11-point fourth quarter Tigers lead to three points with 34 seconds remaining, but Colorado College hung on for the win.

Coming into the game, TLU was on a two-game winning streak and had won seven of their last eight games. The loss was only the second conference loss for the Bulldogs this season.

Senior Jenesis Navarro (San Antonio/Lee) led the Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points. Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) would join Navarro in double-figures with 10 points. Kailey Lacy (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) and Jayla Santa Maria (Edinburg/Edinburg) would come alive in the fourth combining for 10 of the Bulldogs 15 fourth quarter points to bring the Bulldogs within a possession.

Texas Lutheran led for the majority of the first half, but the Tigers were able to stay within striking distance to trail by just two points, 30-28, at halftime.

A 16-2 run to open the second half put Colorado College up 12 points, and the Tigers led by nine, 57-48, heading into the fourth quarter - outscoring the Bulldogs 29-18 on 52.6% shooting in the third quarter.

The Tigers would extend their lead to 11 points early on in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs wouldn't let up. Texas Lutheran would cut into the deficit and hold Colorado College without a made field goal for the final 3:54 of the game. The Bulldogs would close the margin to three points with 34 seconds remaining following a corner three from Santa Maria but were never able to get the game tying basket to force overtime.

The Bulldogs' stretch of five road games in 11 days continues on Wednesday as they travel to San Antonio for a rematch with first place Trinity (TX). Tip-off is currently set for 8 PM from Calgaard Gymnasium. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
