Softball Splits SCAC Opening Doubleheader with Centenary

Softball opened up SCAC play this Saturday afternoon against Centenary College. After two games, the Celts ended up splitting the doubleheader.

Game One UST 1 CEN 2

In the first two innings of SCAC action, both teams struggled to score runs. However, Centenary got on the board first as the Ladies added one run. They then added one more run in the fourth to put St. Thomas down 2-0. The Celts were then shut out until the seventh inning. Down to their last three outs, Mallarie Munson answered the call with the 10th home run of her career. However, the Celts could not follow it up with another run as they dropped the opening game 2-1.

Game Two UST 9 CEN 0

After dropping the opening game, the Celts answered in the visitor frame of the first scoring three runs. Then after a quiet second and third, Celeste Luna hit an RBI single that scored Jaeyln Simmons. Following that, Adelyn Beccera went yard for the first time in her career to add two more runs as the score read 5-0. When it looked like the score would hold, St. Thomas was not done yet, as Delayne Moreno hit a solo shot to right field to make the score 7-0. Then with victory in sight, the Celts added two more runs to secure the 9-0 victory.

Allison Hughes got the start in the circle and pitched six innings of shutout softball. Hughes only allowed just four hits and struck out four batters in the win.

Up next, the Celts wrap up their SCAC opening series against Centenary tomorrow at 12pm. Follow ustcelts.com for all scores and updates.
