Celts fall in four sets to LeTourneau

HOUSTON – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas took the opening set but were unable to sustain their momentum Tuesday as they fell to LeTourneau in four sets.

Scores of the match were 21-25, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-20.

Alaina Lanik and Alyssa Ajlouny knocked down eight kills apiece for the Celts (4-9), who lost at home for the first time since 2017. Courtney Bates added seven kills off the St. Thomas bench.

Lanik finished two kills shy of another triple-double, as she also recorded 14 assists and 17 digs. Kelsie Walker also turned in a double-double performance with 19 assists and 16 digs.

Kaylyn Latin's 22 digs led the UST defensive effort. Mariah Regan chipped in 14 digs, while Alysse Villadiego followed with 13 digs.

LeTourneau (10-7) was led by Kianna Crow's 28 kills.

The Celts knocked down 14 kills and committed no attacking errors in the first set but were unable to keep the momentum as LeTourneau avenged an earlier loss to St. Thomas.

St. Thomas returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Play this weekend when the Celts visit Schreiner University for four matches. They open play Saturday at 1 p.m. against Colorado College.
