Tigers celebrate Groundhog Day

Box Score The calendar says Feb. 8, but for Colorado College, it sure seemed like Groundhog Day.

The Tigers overcame a double-digit first-half deficit for the second game in a row to post a 65-61 victory over Centenary College on Friday night at Reid Arena.

It was remarkable that CC was in the game considering sophomore forward Chris Lesnansky, freshman guard Justin Berardino and junior guard Jake Tramutolo were all playing with four fouls. But with the game on the line, the Tigers' newcomers came through in a big way.

Freshman forward Tyler Jonas scored eight points, but his biggest play of the night took place with 1:13 remaining when he blocked Brett Bell's shot from the right baseline to force a shot clock violation.

On the ensuing possession, Berardino buried a 3-pointer from the right wing to put the Tigers ahead to stay at 61-58.

After a layup by Caden Cheramie cut Colorado College's lead to one point, Lesnansky sank a pair of clutch free throws with 36 seconds to play and junior guard Ryan Milne nailed down the victory with two free throws with four seconds to play.

The Gents jumped out to an early 16-5 lead after a three-pointer by Tyler Wright, and despite several comeback attempts by CC, maintained that advantage until there was less than three minutes remaining in the half.

A three-pointer by freshman guard Juwan Rohan ignited a 10-0 run that saw the Tigers pull to within 29-28, but Brooks Pawsat knocked down a jumper from the left baseline as time expired to give Centenary a three-point advantage after 20 minutes.

Despite playing just 24 minutes, Lesnansky finished with a game-high 17 points. Senior forward Ian Rewoldt added 13 points.

Milne finished with seven points and became the 18th player in Colorado College history to reach the 1,000-point mark. He also dished out six assists.

Senior forward Ian Rewoldt hauled in seven rebounds and became the 14th Tiger to record 500 or more.

Pawsat paced the Gents with 13 points, while Jonathan Blount added 12.

CC improved to 13-9 overall and 9-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Gents dropped to 8-13 overall and 4-9 in league play.

Colorado College and Centenary complete their three-game series on Saturday night.
