James Settles captured first place individually and led the Colorado College men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Metro State Invitational Saturday in Denver, Colo.
Settles, who finished 26
th at the same meet last year, won the 8K race in a time of 24 minutes, 50.51 seconds, beating runners from Division I and II teams. Fellow senior
Devlin Swanson finished in 16
th place with a time of 25:43.38.

Huck Whittemore (7:03.43) rounded out the scoring for CC in 44
th place.
The Tigers, the only Division III team at the meet, collected 87 points, behind Division I Air Force (28) and Division II Colorado Mines (51) and Metro State (76).
"Our team performed extremely well against some very good competition today," head coach
Alex Nichols said. "The groups that are forming indicate that we have a national caliber squad this year. I am looking forward to seeing them continue to improve when we get into the second half of the season."
The Tigers return to action at their own Ted Castaneda Classic on Saturday, Sept. 30 at North Monument Valley Park, beginning at 11 a.m.
