Black Nets 27 as Tigers Fall to UD

CooXooEii poured in 27 points and became the 27th player in program history to record 900 career points, but Colorado College dropped to a 90-84 result to the University of Dallas on Saturday at Reid Arena.

Black, who leads the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a .588 field-goal percentage, was 8-for-12 from the floor and sank nine of 11 free throws.

The junior forward also grabbed 10 rebounds to complete his fourth double-double of the season and the 13th of his career. He also set a season high with four blocked shots.

Edmund Pendleton also produced a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. The senior guard also dished out four assists for CC.

Junior guard Eric Jonas dialed long distance four times and finished with 14 points for the Tigers, who slipped to 4-9 overall and 0-4 in the SCAC.

Colorado College trailed 71-60 when Cameron Hyde hit a three-pointer with 8:52 remaining in the game, but scored eight in a row to get to within three on a Pendleton floater in the lane.

Michael Wambsganss hit a jumper to give the Crusaders an 81-73 lead with 4:05 on the clock, however the Tigers clawed their way back to within a point on freshman guard Scott Cunningham's triple with 1:10 to play.

Wambsganss answered with a three-pointer 18 seconds later, and then UD closed out the victory by making all four of its free throws during the final half-minute.

Colorado College trailed 30-19 after Logan Fruhwirth scored with 4:29 remaining in the first half, but heated up during the next eight minutes to grab a 46-45 lead when Jonas connected from downtown 3:24 after halftime.

A triple from Black gave the Tigers a 54-50 lead, however UD answered with eight in a row to grab the lead it would not relinquish.

Wambsganss led UD with 22 points. He was one of four Crusaders who connected on four three-point buckets.

Fruhwirth went 4-for-6 from long range and finished with 16 points, while Dustin Mathis was 4-for-5 from behind the arc to account for all 12 of his points.

As a team, Dallas connected on 15 of 29 three-pointers and improved to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Colorado College plays host to Schreiner University on Sunday at 3 p.m.
