Duplain Leads CCs to Rout of Crusaders

Colorado College exploded for 15 consecutive points to open the game and rolled to a 74-45 victory over the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon at Reid Arena.

Nia Duplain connected on her first seven shots from the floor and tied her career high with 18 points as the Tigers improved to 3-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and leveled their overall record at 6-6. The junior guard/forward also grabbed eight rebounds.

McKenzee Gertz finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists. The sophomore winger made three of seven three-point attempts and finished the game with 98 career triples, which ties her for fifth in program history.

Sophomore guard Jade Odom scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and distributed five assists for CC.

Junior forward Claire Sabin grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds as Colorado College finished with a massive 51-31 advantage in the glass.

After falling behind 23-7 when Izzy Strigel dialed long distance with 3:16 remaining in the first quarter, the Crusaders scored seven consecutive points and trimmed its deficit to nine points when Gracie Williams sank a pair of free throws.

The Tigers extended their lead to 42-21 when senior guard Casey Torbet made two free throws with two minutes to play in the second quarter and they took a 44-27 lead into halftime.

UD pulled to within 16 points when Tiffani Lowe drove the right side of the lane and scored on a layup with 4:18 to play in the third quarter, and were within 18 when Vanessa Diaz knocked down a jumper with 33 seconds remaining. That however, proved to be as close as the Crusaders would get.

Odom scored five points as CC opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to dismiss any notion of a miracle comeback for Dallas.

Diaz led the Crusaders with 13 points and six rebounds.

Taylor Jobe added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals for UD, which dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-3 in the SCAC.
