Men's Soccer Advances to SCAC Final

Men's Soccer won their semifinal match against the one-seeded Trinity University, 2-1.

 

The first half kicked off with the Celts struggling to find their rhythm. The Tigers applied pressure with back-to-back runs into the Celts defensive end early in the game, forcing Goalkeeper Rodrigo Lazo to make three huge saves to keep the game scoreless. At the 33rd minute Oscar Aragon made a long pass into the Tigers defensive end, Jair Perez was able to get a foot on the ball and shoot a rocket over the Tigers goalkeeper, into the top right corner to give the Celts the early, 1-0 lead. It was Perez's first goal of the season. The Tigers continued to pressure the Celts offensively but were not able to capitalize on their opportunities. UST woulld head into the half up 1-0, having four shots on goal and eight saves.

 

The second half opened with the Tigers fiiring four shots on target, in the first ten minutes. The Celts first opportunity of the half came at the 55th minute, when Perez managed to find the back of the net to score his second goal of the match to land him a brace. The Tigers continued to pressure UST, eventually scoring at the 80th minute to make it 2-1. Momentum shifted as the Tigers continued to press for the equalizer, but the Celts were able to control and close out the game defensively ending the game, 2-1.

  

UST Men's Soccer will compete in their first SCAC Championship game tomorrow.
