St, Thomas Splits Doubleheader with Austin College

St, Thomas Splits Doubleheader with Austin College

Baseball continued its SCAC series with Austin College this Saturday afternoon. After a full day of SCAC action, the Celts won the series 2-1, by taking game two and dropping game three.

Game 2: UST 5 AC 2

St. Thomas picked up right where they left off yesterday, scoring the first runs of the game. Mason Seay got the Celts on the board with a sacrifice fly to make the score 1-0. Yet, their lead was short lived as Austin College responded with a run of their own to tie the game 1-1. Then in the third, Mason Seay got another RBI as the Celts retook the lead 2-1. That lead was also cracked as Austin College tied the game again 2-2. However, that would be all the Austin College runs St. Thomas pitching would allow this game. In the following five innings, the Celts shut out the roos and picked up three runs of insurance to secure the 5-2 victory.

On the mound, Landon Murray continued his stellar season going 6.1 innings and allowing just two runs. He also struck out eight batters. Then in relief, Brady Watson got out of a jam setting up a shutout eighth inning for Luke Johnson. Finally, picking up his fourth save of the year Kameron Craig finished the job.

Game 3: UST 4 AC 5

Both teams were unable to score a run early as both starting pitchers started hot. Kadin Munson on the mound went six innings and striking out a whopping 14 batters. Then in the fifth, he finally got run support as Mason Seay drew a bases loaded walk to give St. Thomas the 1-0 lead. The following batter, Jeffrey Williams then forced an error on the Austin College defense to make the score 2-0. From there, the Celts added one more run as Leo Galvan came home on another error by the roo's defense. With the score now 3-0, Austin College was searching for momentum, and they got it in the seventh inning. Scoring four runs in their half of the inning, the score now read 4-3 in favor of the Roos. Then adding a run of insurance, the Celts found themselves in a hole 5-3 down to their final outs. Looking for a spark on offense, Israel Fields answered with a solo shot, however that would be all St. Thomas would get as the final score favored Austin College, 5-4.

Up next, baseball returns home for their final series of the regular season against SCAC foe, Trinity University. Follow ustcelts.com for all scores and updates.
