Ogilvie Lifts CC Over Southwestern

Box Score Brandon Ogilvie made sure the celebration of head coach Horst Richardson's 50th season with the Colorado College men's soccer team was an enjoyable one.

Ogilvie struck for the only goal the 14-ranked Tigers needed in the 15th minute and set up an insurance tally late in the second half to lift CC to a 2-0 victory over Southwestern University on Friday afternoon in front of an enthusiastic Homecoming crowd at Washburn Field.

Ogilvie's header off a cross from junior defender Trevor Houghton found the upper right corner, just beyond the fingertips of Pirate goalkeeper Travis Carmichael.

It proved to be Ogivie's fourth game winner of the season and the 13th of his career.

The All-America candidate displayed his superb footwork on CC's second goal, working his way past a pair of defenders on the right end line before sending a cross to sophomore defender Nathan Anderson, who scored his first career goal from six yards near the left post.

Ogilvie became the 15th Tiger to record 30 or more career goals, tying Jim Grice (1982-85) for 14th place on the program's all-time list. The senior forward also became CC's 20th player to record 70 or more career points and is tied with Eddie Dietz (1976-79) and Tyler Free (1997-00) for 18th place.

Freshman goalkeeper Theo Hooker stopped all three shots that he faced en route to his sixth clean sheet of the season. He improved to 8-1-0 and lowered his goals-against average to 0.22.

Carmichael finished with eight saves to keep the Pirates in the game. His best effort occurred in the 69th minute when he came off his line to stop a low drive by Colorado College sophomore midfielder Caden MacKenzie.

The Tigers finished with a 28-4 advantage in total shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. It marked the seventh time this season CC allowed five or fewer shots in a game.

Colorado College improved to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Southwestern slipped to 5-7-0 overall and 5-3-0 in conference play.

The Tigers play host to No. 3 Trinity University on Sunday at Stewart Field.
