Slow Start Haunts Pirates

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern went eight minutes without a field goal to open the game and could not recover as they fell to Rhodes 59-37 on Saturday night.

Even with the slow start Southwestern trailed by just six, 15-9, as the clock ticked under eight minutes in the first half. Defense and free throws allowed the Pirates to hang around and went into the break down 12, 27-15, despite shooting just 12.9% from the field.

SU continued to struggle through the outset of the second half and were held to six points through the halfway point of the second frame. Rhodes remained out of reach for Southwestern as the game came to a close with the Lynx taking the victory.

The Pirates shot 20.4% for the game and 20% from there point range while holding the Lynx to 41.3% from the field and 23.5% from long range. Rhodes also led on the boards with a +16 rebounding margin. Kenneth Brooks (pictured) led for SU with eight points while Rhodes' Kory Kilpatrick led all scorers with 10 points.

Southwestern falls to 1-18 on the year and 1-9 in the SCAC while Rhodes improves to 13-7 and 8-3. SU heads to San Antonio to face Trinity on Wednesday night before returning to take on the Tigers at home on Saturday.
