Tigers Close Season with Victory at JWU

Colorado College played a near-perfect first half and then hung on for a convincing 75-61 victory at Johnson & Wales University in the season finale for both team on Saturday afternoon at the Wildcat Center.

Junior forward CooXooEii Black scored 24 points and senior guard Edmund Pendleton grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to lead CC.

Black connected on 11 of 17 field-goal attempts and pulled down nine rebounds. He finished the season with a team-leading 463 points, which ranks 24th on the program's single-season scoring list.

In addition to matching his career high for rebounds, Pendleton added six points and a pair of assists in his final game. The team's only senior finished the season with personal highs of 157 points, 132 rebounds and 85 assists.

Freshman guard Aaron Acosta added 19 points for the Tigers, connecting on seven of 11 shots from the floor and five of seven from long distance.

As a team, Colorado shot a faction better than 62 percent during the opening 20 minutes, including a 6-for-9 performance from behind the arc.

After Bailey Stephens hit a three-pointer to pull the Wildcats to with five points, the Tigers caught fire and closed out the first half with a 30-6 run to build a 44-15 halftime lead.

Colorado College extended its advantage to 31 points when freshman guard Scott Cunningham scored two of his seven points on a layup 44 seconds into the second half.

Freshman guard Isaac Zachem gave CC a 70-42 with a deuce with 6:39 to play, but JWU answered with 13 consecutive points to cut its deficit to 15 with 2:15 on the clock.

Acosta's layup ended the run, and after Andrew Romero trimmed the Wildcat's deficit to 14, Zachem sealed the victory by dropping a trey with 1:04 remaining.

The Tigers finished with a 43-21 advantage on the glass and Colorado College's bench outscored the reserves from Johnson & Wales, 31-2.

Romero led the Wildcats with a game-high 27 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Stephens added 17 points for JWU.

CC finished the season with an 8-17 overall record and a 4-12 mark in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Johnson & Wales slipped to 17-8 overall and 10-6 in conference play.
