No. 23 Southwestern Blanks Crusaders in Doubleheader
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team was edged by No. 23 Southwestern University on Friday in the final conference series of the regular season. The Crusaders battled the top-25 nationally ranked opponent well, with the Pirates doing most of their scoring in just one inning of both games in the double dip. UD was held to seven combined hits on the day, as Southwestern extended its conference shutout streak to seven games.

Karina Campo (Georgetown, Texas) did well pitching back in her hometown. She logged five innings in the start, with four runs (three earned) on six hits allowed to go with no walks and a strikeout.
Campo had a one inning blemish, which came in the form of three runs in the third inning. Jordan Faber singled to the pitcher for her lone hit and RBI to break the scoreless contest. Katie Bricarell stroked a two-RBI single through the left side to increase the margin by three. Bricarell and Tori Montemayor had two-hit games for the Pirates, while the top trio of hitters in the lineup scored once.
A dropped fly ball in centerfield in the fifth inning allowed SU to tack on an unearned insurance run. The Pirates finished with seven hits in the game.
Caitlyn Stevenson (Henderson, Nev.), Julie Duenas (Houston, Texas), and Katelyn Lazarek (Seattle, Wash.) recorded the hits for the Crusaders. Haley Henson (Chandler, Texas) threw a scoreless sixth inning in relief.
Lindsey Longuet limited three hits allowed in the shutout. She fanned five and walked one, as she collected her 13th win of the season.

The Pirates used another three-run frame, this time coming in the first inning to start the game. Tori Montemayo singled to start the home side of the dugout. An error put two runners on and set things up for Kaitlynn Copher to do some big damage, as she doubled for the two-RBI knock. Maddie Mefford added a sacrifice fly for the third run.
UD had a chance to answer back in the second inning, but with two runners in scoring position had consecutive strikeouts happen.
Another error allowed the Pirates to push the lead to four, as Copher reached and Farber scored. Dallas committed three errors, while SU made two overall. The Crusaders made a pair of errors on back-to-back plays that led to the run coming in that home second inning.
The third inning featured half of UD's four hits for the game, with Duenas singling to shortstop and Liz Cordova (Oklahoma City, Okla.) ripping a hit in the left center gap to put Duenas on third. The Crusaders left both on that inning.
A run in the fourth completed the scoring, but the 23rd ranked team in the country had bases-loaded, and Emily Martin (San Jose, Calif.) recorded the last out that inning with a pop fly to right field to escape further trouble.
Dallas had runners on in the fifth and sixth innings but stranded two runners in each. Brianna Hale (Austin, Texas) and Campo had a hit occur in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.
Four hitless players recorded a walk for UD to accumulate to the team's total of free passes and pushed eight different Crusaders reaching base in the game.
Bricarell led the SU offense with a 3-for-4 and RBI. Copher added the other multi-hit performance with a 2-for-3. Montemayor, Farber, and Copher are hitters 1-3 and had all of the Pirates' runs.
Bailey Meyer logged a four-hit shutout, as she went seven innings. She fanned 10 and gave up four hits in the circle.
Maggie Watts (Arcadia, La.) had a rough start, but competed and got through 3.2 innings. She allowed nine hits. Emily Martin (San Jose, Calif.) tossed the last 2.1 shutout innings.
