Soaring Eagles Slide by UD Women's Lacrosse on Wednesday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-7 result in its home opener to Elmira College on Wednesday. Rainfall throughout the afternoon and match created slick conditions on the game field. Elmira (1-1) took a 12-7 halftime lead and were able to score all seven goals in the second half to claim the victory.

Scoring was slow in the early going for both sides. Mikayla Carfello put the first goal in at 25:29 in the first half. The next scoring result was about eight minutes later for Dallas' Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas) with the equalizer. Jordyn Buell (Murrieta, Calif.) assisted the goal. The team's two scorers at that juncture traded goals over the next minutes. Elmira's Rachael Goetz scored a man-up goal from Kendra Heath at 14:13 to put the team up for good. She added another goal from Carfello moments later to make it 4-2.

UD's Ann Rushing scored her first career goal with 10 minutes before intermission to nip the score to 4-3.

The Soaring Eagles posted a pair of three-goal runs to build a 10-4 advantage with under four minutes into the stanza. Pauletti countered with back-to-back goals at 2:45 and 2:20. Elmira scored two-of-three goals to close the half and scored the final eight goals of the match.

The Crusaders were outshot 16-6 in the final 30 minutes after being outdone by six (18-12) in the first half. They did put 15 shots on cage.

Pauletti paced Dallas scorers with five goals to match a personal-high. The junior put seven of her 10 shots on cage. Rushing delivered the other two UD goals for her first ones of her career. Gabby Dixon (San Diego, Calif.) picked up seven ground balls to lead all participants.

The Crusaders edged Elmira on ground balls by two (29-27). The Soaring Eagles went 31-38 on clears compared to 20-34 by UD, and were 4-of-5 on free position shots. Dallas made two in just as many attempts. Elmira also had six more draw controls (17-11) than the Crusaders.

Goetz notched a game-high eight goals with 12 shots and nine shots on goal. She added nine draw controls and six ground balls. Carfello followed with seven points that included six goals.
