Celts Fall to Crusaders 6-1 In Single Game Series

Celts Fall to Crusaders 6-1 In Single Game Series

Baseball hosted a mid-week single game against Mary Hardin Baylor this Tuesday night.

In the first inning, the Celts found themselves in a hole as the Crusaders generated three runs on three hits. When it looked like a fourth was going to be a score, a clutch fly out to Kyle Bearden stopped the bleeding. From there, it looked like the Celts settled into the game as they posted five consecutive shutout innings. Then in the home half of the sixth, Jeffrey Williams hit a single to drive in a run and put St. Thomas on the board.

After the crusaders added a run in the top half of the seventh, the Celts had a chance to tie the game with two on and one out. However, they failed to capitalize on the opportunity. Then the Crusaders added one run of insurance in the eighth to extend their lead to 5-1. In the ninth, the Cru added another run to take control 6-1. Down to their final three outs, St. Thomas could not generate any runs as they eventually lost 6-1.

Up next, baseball starts conference play at home against Schreiner University. Come out to Reckling Park (Rice University) on Friday at 6 pm as St. Thomas begins their SCAC run!
