SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity men's and women's cross country teams opened up their seasons at the University of the Incarnate Word Twilight Meet for the second straight season, with several individuals improving their times from last year's event.
"Both teams averaged faster than last year," began Head Coach
Emily Daum. "Our men averaged 17 seconds faster and our women averaged eight seconds faster for our scoring positions. Lots of personal best, on the same course as last year, shows they definitely put in the work over the summer. We're excited to continue building over the coming weeks."
The women's team finished second behind Baylor University in the meet, but finished in front of other non-Division III teams in the meet - including host NCAA I Incarnate Word. The Trinity men were in fourth place behind three other NCAA I schools.
Krista Wolfhope (Austin, Texas / Vista Ridge) led the Tiger women with a seventh-place individual finish in her collegiate debut. She led a pack of three Trinity women's runners in the top 10 and seven total among the top 20 individually.
Will Salony (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) led three Trinity men in the top 22 and a total of eight in the top 40.
Wolfhope finished in 15:04.1 and was joined in the top 10 by sophomore
Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) and senior
Ellie Catron (Spring, Texas / The Woodlands Christian). Gurule was ninth with a time of 15:06.9, followed by Catron's time of 15:08.6 that earned her 10th place.
