Dallas Falls to Chapman University on Saturday

ORANGE, Calif. – The University of Dallas men's basketball team fell to Chapman University 59-39 on Saturday. The Crusaders (4-1) fell behind early but rallied to get within four points at the halftime break. UD later diminished the Chapman (3-1) lead to two points early in the second half but gave up a 15-point swing to the Panthers. UD was limited to just 17 points in the second half and was held to a 13-52 (25%) effort from the field for the game. Two Panthers combined for 33 of the team's points in the winning effort.

Dallas took a 3-2 lead after Michael Wambsganss (Denver, Colo.) hit a three-pointer following a Chapman layup. The Panthers then got on a roll jumping out to a 15-3 advantage. Chandler White and Hayden Moore scored all of those points in that long run. Chapman grew its lead to 21-8 just before the midway point of the half. UD then finished the final eleven minutes on a 14-6 run to get within four points (26-22) heading into the locker room. Six Crusaders helped chip in on that final run to end the half.

UD hit the first bucket of the first half thanks to John Russell (Bossier City, La.) to cut the once insurmountable lead to just two. Dallas hung around after both teams traded buckets midway through the final half (37-33). A 15-0 run for the Panthers pushed them out in front and left Dallas in the dry. This big run helped Chapman get the home court victory.

Wambsganss was the lone Crusader to notch double digits on the afternoon as he finished with 13 points draining three treys. Letrell Toussaint (Waco, Texas) grabbed six points and five rebounds, as Cameran Hyde (Missouri City, Texas) added five points. Dallas was 8-11 (72.7%) from the free throw line.

White led the Panthers with a double-double gathering 17 points and 13 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive glass. White finished 7-8 from the field and 2-2 from behind the arc. Moore added 16 points. Sam Barela dished out a game-high eight assists on the day.

Chapman won every statistical portion of the box score, even though they had more turnovers in the ball game. The Panthers won the rebound battle 41-27 and scored 22 of its points in the paint. Chapman shot exactly 50% (23-46) from the field and 6-17 (35.3%) from three-point range.
