Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif.—Swarthmore College Men's Tennis opened its spring swing to California with a pair of tough matches against nationally-ranked opponents in the Stag-Hen Invitational on Monday.
Swarthmore fell 9-0 to No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to kick off the invitational.
Mark Fallati had the closest match at first singles. Fallati won the first set 6-4, but lost the second set 7-6, and then fell 10-7 in the tiebreaker.
Fallati and
Josh Powell nearly took top doubles, but fell 8-7.
The Garnet then played No. 15 Trinity University (Texas) later that day. Swarthmore trailed 2-1 after doubles, getting a point from rookies
Jiung Jung and
Thibault Vernier in third doubles.
Fallati won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2, and Swarthmore also got wins in fifth and sixth singles. Jung won at No. 5 6-1, 6-2, and
Evan Han won in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Simon Vernier came close to getting the fifth point for Swarthmore but was defeated in three sets.
Men's Tennis plays against Hope International (1:30 PM ET) and Redlands (5 PM) on Wedensday.
