Tigers go undefeated at SCAC Crossover

The No. 14 Colorado College volleyball team went undefeated during the final day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference East/Central Crossover, Sunday in Sewanee, Tenn.

Colorado College began the day with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-12) win over Centre College.

Junior Laura Goldsmith had her fifth double-double of the season, leading the team with 22 digs and a career-high 17 kills. Goldsmith also served a team-high four aces against the Colonels.

Senior Amy Schornack had a team-high 42 assists and added four service aces for the Tigers. Senior Sarah Schmoker added 12 kills on offense.  

Senior Haley Hamilton and sophomore Devin Wilkinson led CC at the net with four blocks each on defense. Senior Hannah Varnell picked up 20 digs in the back row for the Tigers.

Colorado College finished the SCAC East/Central Crossover sweeping Birmingham-Southern College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-18).

Schmoker led the Tiger offense with 10 kills, while Schornack dished out a team-high 24 assists.

Varnell led CC on defense with 19 digs. Hamilton led the Tigers at the net with three blocks.

Goldsmith finished the day serving up a team-high five service aces to tie her career-high against the Panthers.

With the victories, CC improved to 13-4 this season and 4-0 during SCAC action. Centre fell to 7-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while Birmingham-Southern fell to 6-12 this season and 1-3 in conference action.

The Tigers continue on the road as they take on Union College in a non-conference match at 6 p.m. on Sept. 29. CC then travels to Memphis, Tenn. on Oct. 1-2 for the SCAC Central/West Crossover.
