
BELTON, Texas - Southwestern swept doubles matches en route to a 7-2 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor Sunday afternoon.
Alexis Dimanche and Grant Gideon were tough at #1 doubles, finishing with an 8-2 win. Dean Dulthummon and Alonso Fernandez (#2) followed suit with an 8-2 win of their own. David Strong and Jeremy Wilson had a tougher challenge in #3 doubles but emerged with the win nonetheless, 8-4.
"We changed our doubles lineup and what a shot of energy Alonso was," said Head Coach Billy Porter. "We've started out slow lately and he delivered everything we needed and more."
Singles play got underway and Southwestern's top three were rolling. Dimanche made quick work of Weiss at the #1 slot, winning 6-0, 6-1 while Dulthummon (#2) and Gideon (#3) battled early before dominating in the second set for 6-4, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1 wins, respectively.
Tyler Norman found himself in the toughest battle of the day at #3 singles but emerged with the win after dropping the first set 6-3. Norman went on to win 6-4, 10-8 in the final two sets.
