'Roo Volleyball Sweeps Paul Quinn and Sul Ross

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team notched its first two victories of the season on Friday in Hughey Gym, sweeping both Paul Quinn College and Sul Ross State by scores of 3-0. The 'Roos are now 2-4 on the year, and will be looking to keep the momentum going tomorrow when they host Sul Ross again at 1:00 p.m., followed by Howard Payne at 3:00 p.m.

Austin College cruised to a 25-15 first set victory in the opening match against Paul Quinn, but the Tigers battled throughout the second and third sets and the 'Roos needed to come from behind both times to come away with 28-26 and 25-22 wins to clinch the victory. The 'Roos hit .216 as a team, compared to .213 for Paul Quinn, but had nine service errors and 20 attacking errors to help keep things close. Karson Dykes led the 'Roos with 11 kills, while Brooklyn Talley had 24 assists and Mari Prazak had 14 digs to pace Austin College.

The 'Roos also got eight kills from Shelbi Cook and seven from Abigail Teicher, and Allison Pierce added 16 assists and four service aces.

In the second match of the night against Sul Ross, the 'Roos fought to a 25-21 set one victory before taking full control in sets two and three, winning by scores of 25-17 and 25-13. Dykes once again led Austin College with 12 kills, and Christine Royalty added eight while boasting a .400 hitting percentage. Talley had 18 assists, while Pierce just missed out on a double-double with 15 assists and nine digs.

Hannah Arbaugh had 13 digs to lead Austin College, while Prazak added 12 and Bri Williams had 10 to go along with six kills and three service aces.
