Houska Drives Tigers Past Austin College

Box Score Eric Houska poured in a season-high 23 points and tied his season best with eight assists to lead the Colorado College men's basketball team to an 87-82 victory over Austin College on Friday night at Reid Arena.

All five starters scored double-digit points for the Tigers, who improved to 7-8 overall and leveled their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record at 2-2.

Houska was 8-for-16 from the floor and sank all six of his free throws while reaching the 20-point mark for the third game in a row and the sixth time this year. The senior guard also matched his season-high of eight assists for the sixth time.

Houska climbed into fourth place on the program's career list with 359 assists, surpassing Craig Wade's (1982-83, 1984-86) total of 353.

CooXooEii Black posted his third double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. The sophomore forward also dished out four assists for CC.

Senior forward John Hatch scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

In his first career start, sophomore guard Eric Jonas scored a career-best 10 points, as did senior winger Ryan Young.

The Tigers led 68-57 when Young scored on a layup with 7:14 remaining in the game, but the 'Roos battled back and pulled to within three when Michael Holland hit a three-pointer with 1:39 to go.

Colorado College sealed the victory by going 9-for-10 at the free-throw line during the final 1:14.

Freshman guard Kam Hogan scored 23 points for Austin, which dropped to 2-13 overall and 0-4 in the SCAC.

Holland finished with 14 points and a team-leading six rebounds. The freshman forward also dished out four assists and had a game-high four steals for the 'Roos.

Josh Quinn connected on five of 11 three-point attempts and finished with 15 points.

The senior guard hit his first two long-range shots as Austin bolted to an 11-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest.

The Tigers took their first lead at 22-20 when Jonas dialed long distance with 9:31 remaining in the first half.

Colorado College led 39-32 when Black scored on a layup with 54 seconds to go in the first half, but the 'Roos scored seven of the next nine points and pulled to within two when Hogan scored on a driving layup just before the clock hit zeros.

CC finished with a 47-22 advantage on the glass, but Austin stayed within striking distance by going 12-for-29 from behind the arc.

The Tigers play host to conference-rival Centenary College on Sunday at noon.
