Defense fuels 88-59 victory over Finlandia

Colorado College forced a season-high 22 turnovers and knocked down 10 three-point baskets as the Tigers cruised to an 88-59 victory over Finlandia University on Sunday afternoon at Reid Gymnasium.

Nick Rose had 22 points, eight rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists during just 24 minutes of playing time. Everyone scored for CC except point guard Zander Goepfert, who had one assist during five minutes of action.

After the Lions took an 8-3 lead on a three-pointer by Jerrod Owens 2:32 into the game, the Tigers gave up only 11 points during the next 17:28 while building a commanding 45-19 lead after 20 minutes. CC had seven steals and forced 13 turnovers in the first half alone.

Ryan Milne scored eight points and dished out four assists without a turnover. Jeff Smith made four of five shots and finished with eight points.

The Tigers took their biggest lead when Jeremiah Waters notched two of his 11 points with 7:45 to play to make the score 69-35.

Nik Patrick, Tyler Koski and Owens scored 11 points apiece for Finlandia. Chase Leskela pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Colorado College (3-1) travels to Division II Regis University on Tuesday night before opening Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play next Friday at Hendrix College.
