Celts down Schreiner 1-0 for third consecutive win

KERRVILLE, Texas – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas ran their winning streak to three consecutive matches Sunday with a 1-0 win at Schreiner.

Tom Hultsch (JR/Luneburg, Germany)'s first-half goal shortly before the half-hour mark lifted the Celts to the victory. Luis Bencomo (JR/Barquisimeto, Venezuela), who scored the match-winning goal Friday in UST's win at Trinity, assisted on Hultsch's goal Sunday.

The Celts (7-5) improved to 3-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play after opening their conference schedule with a loss to Colorado College. UST has won four of its last five matches.

Schreiner (3-9-1) fell to 1-2 with the loss.

UST outshot Schreiner 13-6 in the match. UST's defense insured that goalkeeper Pedro Medrano (SO/San Salvador, El Salvador) only had to make two saves in the match en route to his second consecutive shutout.

The Celts will try to add to their winning streak Friday when they visit Centenary (La.). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
