'Roos Cruise Past Hendrix

SHERMAN, Texas –The Austin College women's basketball team used hot three-point shooting and a huge second half performance to coast to an 87-46 victory over visiting Hendrix College on Saturday in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 7-1 overall on the year.

Ann Savage knocked down 6-of-7 from long distance on her way to a game-high 19 points, and the 'Roos made 15-of-28 from beyond the arc as a team. After leading by just seven points at halftime, the 'Roos outscored the Warriors 50-16 after the break to run away with the victory.

Austin College jumped out to a 15-6 lead before Hendrix trimmed it to a four point game, but the 'Roos scored the final four points of the opening quarter to lead 19-11 after one. The margin grew to 28-16 in the second quarter before Hendrix began chipping away, getting as close as six points and ultimately heading into the locker room trailing 37-30.

However, the 'Roos took full control in the third quarter, with Savage hitting a pair of threes while Caitlyn Collins got into the action with a trey of her own. Bryce Frank and Kacie West each hit a pair of free throws to make it a 52-34 game, and the lead would soon grow to 20 on a triple from West to make it 56-36 with 3:21 left in the third. The 'Roos would end the quarter leading 65-42.

Austin College continued its hot shooting to open up the fourth, while also limiting the Warriors to just four points in the final frame. Addison Walling and Savage each hit a three to make it 71-42, and Reagan Chiaverini and Bridget Watson buried treys of their own down the stretch and help the 'Roos cruise to the win.

Along with her 19 points, Savage added five rebounds, five assists, and a pair of steals. West came off the bench to knock down 4-of-5 threes and score 16 points, while Frank had her sixth double-double of the year with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
