Tigers stay undefeated with wins over Dominican

The No. 13 Colorado College remained undefeated this season after wrapping up the Molten Colorado College Classic with a pair of 3-0 wins over Dominican University on Saturday afternoon in Reid Gymnasium.

CC improved to 8-0, which is the team's best start since 2001, when it also went a perfect 8-0 before losing to Adams State College, 3-1.  

The Tigers did not lose a single set during the entire tournament, winning all four matches 3-0..

Tournament MVP Amy Schornack recorded a double-double with 31 assists and 13 digs in Saturday's first match and finished the weekend with her second career triple-double – 22 assists, 13 kills and 13 digs – to fuel the second victory over Dominican.

Colorado College won the early match with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 sweep over the Stars to begin the final day of the tournament.

Freshman Kristen Liberty – who was named to the all-tournament team – hammered down a team-high nine kills to lead CC on offense.

Sophomore Devin Wilkinson added eight kills and three blocks, while four other players contributed five kills apiece.

Led by five players with double-figure digs, the Tigers finished the day with a 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 triumph in the championship match. Laura Goldsmith (20) and Hannah Varnell had 20 and 16 digs, respectively, while Schornack had 13, Julia Lawton 12 and Liberty 11.

Liberty also posted her second double-double of the tournament with 10 kills and 11 digs to help earn the sweep.

Goldsmith joined her on the all-tournament team. The junior collected a career-high seven assists, along with five kills and three blocks, to cap the day's action for the Tigers.

CC resumes action next weekend when it hosts the Molten Colorado College Invitational on Sept. 16-17 at Reid Gymnasium.
