Moore’s Career Night Powers Tigers Past JWU

Senior forward Julia Moore dominated at both ends of the court while leading Colorado College to a 90-51 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Friday night in Reid Arena.

Moore recorded her first double-double with career highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds to help the Tigers move a half-game ahead of Schreiner University in the battle for the third seed in the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

CC improved to 13-8 overall, which is the most victories in a season since the 2011-12 Tigers finished with a 14-12 record.

Rosie Braley nearly posted a double-double, finishing the game with a season-best 17 points and eight rebounds. She connected on eight of 13 field-goal attempts and one of two free throws.

Colorado College finished the game with a commanding 48-29 advantage on the glass, and its bench outscored the Wildcats, 45-13.

Katey Guzman drained a three pointer to give the Cougars a 17-14 lead with 4:01 remaining in the first quarter. Twenty-two seconds later, McKenzee Gertz answered with a three pointer of her own to tie the game and spark a 12-0 run to give the Tigers a 26-17 lead going into the second quarter.

The barrage continued in the second quarter when CC extended its lead 48-26.

Gertz scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds, which put her in the program's top 10 with 610.

Anna Fanelli's two assists put her into ninth place on the program's single-season assists list with 103.
Izzy Hensley added 14 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists.
 
Johnson & Wales University Standouts
Brianna Bailey finished with a game-high 26 points and led JWU with seven rebounds.
Sariah Serrano added nine points.
 
Notes
Colorado College improved to 9-5 overall and 13-8 in the SCAC.
JWU dropped to 4-10 overall and 4-15 in the conference.
 
Next for the Tigers
Colorado College plays its final home games of the season on Feb. 14-15. The Tigers host Schreiner University on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and finish the home stand against Trinity University on Saturday at 6 p.m.
